Senior living in Whitby

One of the many benefits of calling Chartwell Colonial home is our excellent location in the pretty town of Whitby. Tucked into a mature residential neighbourhood and within easy walking distance of transit and three parks, our residence is also convenient to the many shops and services that dot Brock Street North and Manning Road. You can find minutes-away grocery chains, pharmacies, coffee shops, and banks. The larger Oshawa Centre shopping mall and Walmart SuperCentre are both about a 10-minute drive away. Just south of the residence, Whitby’s historic and vibrant downtown beckons with a lively collection of local independent boutiques and eateries. Travel south a little farther, and Whitby’s waterfront trail, parks, and beaches await you. Lakeridge Health has a specialty hospital in the town, and the larger full-service hospital is in nearby Oshawa. Easily accessible to Highways 401, 412, and 407, and about an hour’s drive from Toronto, Whitby has GO Bus service to the Oshawa GO Train Station.

Things to do in Whitby

While Whitby is within an easy drive to all of the attractions and amenities Toronto has to offer, Whitby residents enjoy a terrific range of things to do and see both within the town’s borders and in the surrounding region. The Lake Ontario waterfront is the perfect place to begin your Whitby tour. Visit the Port Whitby Marina, embark on a sailing excursion, or have lunch at the restaurant. Afterwards, explore the Waterfront Trail, or relax on the grass at Kiwanis Heydenshore Park. Whitby’s compact downtown also has lots to offer in shopping, dining, and a farmer’s market, with many businesses housed in charming old buildings, including the renowned Station Gallery and the Lynde House Museum.

If you’re looking for more historic charm and a vibrant arts and culture scene, Brooklin is a designated heritage conservation area with some beautiful architecture, boutiques, and eateries. Whitby also has a little-known attraction: visit Intrepid Park and discover the site of Camp X, a secret agent school in WWII! For more outdoor pursuits, the Lynde Shores Conservation Area is known for its wildlife, an especially good spot to see migrating waterfowl and shorebirds, and all of its trails are easy to navigate.
