Things to do in Kingsville

Kingsville has the unique distinction of being Canada’s southernmost town, on the same latitude as Northern California. That’s not just an interesting fact; it also means that residents enjoy a warmer climate, with temperatures above 10°C (50°F) 223 days of the year. That means it’s easy to enjoy the town’s great outdoors, especially its magnificent setting on the northern shore of Lake Erie. Beautiful Lakeside Park, for instance, has walking paths and scenic gardens, not to mention spectacular lake views. Cedar Creek Conservation Area, just 10 minutes west, offers excellent bird-watching. The 400-acre Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary offers even more avian wonders. One of the area’s most popular destinations is Point Pelée National Park, an internationally recognized area of bio-diversity.

The temperate climate has also transformed the area into a wine region, so be sure to visit at least one of four local wineries—Pelée Island Winery conducts tours, and has live music on the patio.

Kingsville’s historic downtown offers lots to see and do. The Carnegie Arts and Visitors Centre has regular exhibitions and heritage walking tours. The area is bustling with some excellent farm-to-table restaurants—taking advantage of the fact that Kingsville hosts the largest concentration of vegetable greenhouses in North America. You can shop for artisan goods at The Local Maker, and stop for gourmet coffee at the Red Lantern. Several bakeries and treat shops will satisfy your sweet tooth too.
