Alberta Memory Care Residences

    About Memory Care in Alberta

Memory care in Alberta is provided through both publicly funded and private-pay models. Most Chartwell residences in the province offer memory care services through our partnership with Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) to deliver care under the Continuing Care Home Type B Secure model, where residents are assessed, coordinated, and funded by ALA but receive services from our dedicated on-site teams.

In addition, select residences offer private-pay memory care services, such as our Memory Living neighbourhood at Chartwell Wescott, which provides specialized programming and a dedicated Memory Living Manager in a secure setting. Our approach emphasizes person-centred care, with daily routines designed to support everyone's health, comfort, and sense of identity.

Residents may receive help with tasks such as dressing, bathing, medication administration, and mobility support. Just as importantly, our compassionate staff get to know each person’s unique story, helping foster a sense of familiarity, trust, and emotional connection in a safe and welcoming environment.

Choosing a Memory Care Residence in Alberta

Choosing a memory care residence is a significant decision—and we’re here to help families feel supported and informed. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

    • Location

Staying close to familiar surroundings or family can help ease the transition into memory care. Our communities are located throughout Alberta, offering a variety of settings—from peaceful suburban neighbourhoods to those closer to medical centres and urban amenities. Easy access to healthcare services is especially important for residents with evolving needs.

    • Specialized Memory Care Services

Across Alberta, Chartwell memory care residences offer personalized support based on individual care plans. These typically include assistance with personal hygiene, mobility, medication management, and wellness monitoring. In both publicly funded and private-pay settings, our staff are trained to provide gentle strategies such as reassurance, redirection, and regular visual checks, helping residents feel calm and cared for throughout their day.

Our goal is to create predictable, comforting routines that enhance safety while still promoting engagement and autonomy, delivered with compassion and dignity.

    • Reputation and Accreditation

Trust and confidence matter deeply when selecting a memory care community. Families are encouraged to explore reviews, speak with other families, and ask questions about care practices and staff support.

Chartwell residences in Alberta are licensed to reflect high standards in safety, service, and personalized care. Testimonials also highlight our commitment to building respectful, meaningful relationships with residents and families alike.

    • Activities & Programs

A sense of purpose and engagement is vital in memory care. Our residences offer structured daily routines that include tailored activities catering to residents’ abilities, interests, and comfort levels. These may involve small-group programs, sensory activities, music, crafts, or social visits with familiar staff.

Whether part of our Memory Living neighbourhood or a Continuing Care Type B Secure setting, each activity is designed to promote emotional connection, cognitive stimulation, and moments of joy.

    • Amenities

Comfortable, secure spaces help residents feel more at home. Chartwell memory care residences in Alberta may include thoughtfully designed common areas, secure outdoor courtyards, and accessible dining rooms that support both independence and safety.

Warm, inviting lounges and social areas encourage interaction and offer peaceful places for residents to rest, socialize, or participate in group activities—all within a secure setting that promotes well-being.

    • Family Support

Families are active participants in their loved one’s care journey. Our teams work closely with them to understand each resident’s background, routines, and preferences—helping us deliver care that feels truly personalized.

In our private-pay Memory Living residence, Social Workers are available to guide families through the transition, offer counselling and education, and facilitate ongoing communication. In publicly funded communities, families can expect transparency, regular updates, and support from care teams who are committed to helping ensure residents feel known, respected, and connected.

How Much Does Memory Care in Alberta Cost?

Memory care costs in Alberta depend on the type of residence and whether care is publicly funded through Assisted Living Alberta or offered as private pay. In ALA-funded residences, residents care services are assessed, coordinated and funded by ALA.

Private-pay residences, such as those offering Memory Living, may include all-inclusive pricing or à la carte services for added support. These models allow families to tailor care and lifestyle features to their preferences. Our team is available to help families understand their options and what’s included in each pricing model.
