As a result, we are not only a secure and inviting home for seniors with a variety of care needs, but also a resource for families who are looking for support, education, and personal counselling services during and after a loved one’s transition to memory care.

We take a uniquely person-centred approach to memory care at Chartwell Edgewater. What does that mean? Our staff learn and celebrate each resident’s unique history, values, and likes/dislikes, allowing us to better communicate and understand your loved one’s experience with dementia for their comfort and contentment. This approach helps seniors living with cognitive impairment lead more purposeful and enriched lives, which we believe is essential to their overall well-being. Our staff work to ensure your loved one lives a good day, every day, by partnering with you to customize a care plan that reflects their personal needs and attributes.
Memory care support for families of residents
We know caring for a loved one experiencing memory loss can be challenging but rewarding, which is why we encourage family members to drop by our residence any time to speak with our General Manager or Director of Care, both of whom have an open-door policy. They are on hand to provide the support you need anytime—including providing expert guidance and facilitating family conversations—as well as update you on your loved one’s happiness and well-being.

At Chartwell Edgewater Care Residence, we know how important wholesome, tasty meals are, as well as the experience of sharing them with others. We pride ourselves on our social and supportive dining experience, where our food service team cooks from-scratch, Dietician-approved meals that nourish you or a loved one, incorporating seasonal flavours and catering to the personal dietary needs of each resident. Our Care Aides are also there to support any individuals who need a little extra assistance during meals, upholding their independence and fostering an atmosphere of conversation and enjoyment.

Activities and amenities
Our residents enjoy a variety of activities at our care residence that promote their wellness, enjoyment, and unique interests and abilities. Here, you or a loved one may enjoy our light exercise activities, arts and crafts workshops, musical entertainment, hymn singing and non-denominational church services, or even specialized music therapy for our residents living with dementia. We also organize scenic bus trips—often with an ice cream stop along the way!—small group trips to restaurants or parks, and even special one-on-one experiences for residents with a specific interest or passion.
Amenity spaces that are often enjoyed by our visiting families with their loved ones include activity lounges on each floor, a rooftop patio featuring planters and umbrellas for enjoyment in pleasant weather, a walking path on our first floor, and our lovely, landscaped grounds. Additionally, residents can book in for hair services in our salon, where our visiting foot care specialist also offers weekly services!
For families and residents looking to venture out of doors for time together, we’re across the street from Nanaimo North Shopping Centre, where you might enjoy lunch or some shopping together.
