Brent Binions
President and Chief Executive Officer

Brent has been the President of Chartwell since April 2008 and was appointed President and CEO on May 1, 2009. Brent was Executive Vice President of Chartwell from November 2003 to April 2008, following the REIT’s Initial Public Offering (IPO). He has over 30 years of experience in the seniors housing sector. Prior to joining Chartwell, Brent was President and CEO of JBG Management Inc., a family business which owned and operated three long term care homes and two retirement homes in Ontario. The homes were sold to Chartwell as part of its IPO. Brent is a past President of the Ontario Long Term Care Association and a past Vice President of the Ontario Residential Care Association. He holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and practiced law early in his career.


Karen Sullivan
Chief Operating Officer

With over 29 years of experience in seniors housing, Karen was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Chartwell on January 1st, 2012. Karen is responsible for operations and sales for all of Chartwell’s retirement and LTC homes across Canada. Karen originally joined Chartwell in 2008 as the Executive Vice President, People, with oversight for the human resources and labour relations teams. Prior to joining Chartwell, Karen held progressive positions over a 21 year career at the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) including six years as their Executive Director. Karen is also a former VP Government Relations on the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) Board of Directors and is a founding member of the Canadian Alliance for Long Term Care (CALTC). Karen has an Honours B.A. in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and a CAE designation from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.


Sheri Chateauvert
Chief Administrative Officer

As Chief Administrative Officer, Sheri is responsible for Chartwell’s strategic planning and analysis cycle, the smooth operation of the management information systems, as well as oversight of the property finance team and business project management office. Sheri joined Chartwell Retirement Residences as the Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration in September 2007. Prior to joining Chartwell, Sheri held progressive positions of responsibility with Retirement Residences Real Estate Investment Trust (“RRR”) including Senior Vice President, Finance, and Director of Corporate Accounting. Sheri received her CA designation in 1996 while working for KPMG as a Senior Accountant and in 1997 she started her own consulting business providing corporate accounting and tax services in both Canada and the US. Sheri volunteered for the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) from 2005 to 2013, sitting on the Board of Directors and chairing the Financial Liaison Committee from 2010 to 2013.

Vlad Volodarski
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer

Appointed Chartwell’s Chief Financial Officer in 2005, Vlad is responsible for financial reporting, tax, treasury, risk management, investor relations and capital market activities. In 2011, Vlad also assumed oversight for Chartwell’s real estate portfolio including acquisitions, development and asset management. In this capacity, he and his team completed numerous acquisitions, developments, property repositioning projects and divestitures with the aggregate value of over $2 billion. Prior to joining Chartwell in 2003, Vlad was a Senior Manager with KPMG LLP serving clients in Real Estate, Construction and Seniors Housing industries. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Graduate Mechanical Engineering Degree from the Ukraine. Vlad is a frequent speaker at various industry events, including REALREIT and Investment conferences across North America. Vlad’s community involvement include services on the Board of Directors of Wish of a Lifetime Canada, an organization whose mission is to foster respect and appreciation for seniors by granting life enriching wishes and on the Board of Directors of Jewish Free Loan Toronto.


Jonathan Boulakia
Chief Legal Officer

Jonathan joined Chartwell in January 2008. As Chief Legal Officer he is responsible for all legal and governance matters relating to Chartwell. Jonathan advises Chartwell on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and corporate finance transactions, as well as on legal issues arising out of Chartwell’s operations. He is also Chartwell's Corporate Secretary and has oversight of Chartwell’s Privacy Officer. Prior to joining Chartwell, Jonathan practiced corporate law at Torys LLP, focusing on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Jonathan attended McGill University for undergraduate studies in Science, has an LL.B from the University of Ottawa Common Law Program and has completed the Canadian Securities Course. Jonathan is on the board and the Governance and Nominating Committee of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. He is fluent in English and French.
