To qualify for Continuing Care Home Type B Secure Space (memory care) services at Chartwell Heritage Valley, your loved one will begin with an assessment by an Alberta Health Services (AHS) Case Manager, who determines eligibility and coordinates and funds your loved one’s services at our residence. While care is funded by AHS, subsidized accommodation and other service fees still apply.

Chartwell Heritage Valley works closely with AHS to make the process of living with us as seamless as possible, helping to ensure you receive timely support as you ease into your new home.

Our Continuing Care Home Type B Secure Space (memory care) suites—which are subsidized by Alberta Health Services (AHS)—have two cost components. While AHS funds your care services and subsidizes the cost of your suite if you are eligible for the program following an assessment, residents still pay an accommodation fee and for additional services as applicable. Therefore, price can vary according to suite size/layout and service package. Our Retirement Living Consultants would be pleased to walk you through your options for a more personalized quote.
How do I know if my loved one is ready for memory care?
It may be time to consider memory care if your loved one is showing signs of needing more specialized support for daily living, particularly when cognitive challenges or memory loss become noticeable. This could include difficulty with everyday tasks, forgetfulness affecting safety, challenges in communication, or increasing confusion.
Who is eligible for memory care?
Eligibility for Continuing Care Home Type B Secure Space (memory care) services in Alberta is assessed, coordinated and funded by Alberta Health Services (AHS). If your loved one is experiencing cognitive and health challenges, a Case Manager from AHS will complete a healthcare needs assessment to confirm whether assisted living is the appropriate level of care for them.
What is staff support like for memory care?
Residents receiving memory care services will have access to on-site health care aides 24 hours a day to provide for their support and personal care needs, as well as professional nursing care by a licensed practical nurse. In addition to our other non-registered staff like our friendly dietary servers and housekeepers, your loved one may have access to other professionals delivering rehabilitation or nursing care as coordinated by their Alberta Health Services Case Manager.
Can I decorate my loved one’s memory care suite at Chartwell Heritage Valley?
Yes! We encourage new residents to create a space that reflects their personality and style. Anything from their favourite chair, painting, cabinets or any other décor can help them feel comfortable and adjust quicker to their home. Our suites are unfurnished, so you can make your loved one’s space truly their own.
