Chartwell Isabella is an independent living retirement residence located on a quiet, tree-lined street dotted with well-kept century homes in the central Vickers Park neighbourhood. We’re an interesting place to call home, as our Fort William locale speaks of a unique time in history. In fact, the location of our residence was once the site of a schoolhouse!

The dining experience

Do you share our love of fresh wholesome ingredients and well-prepared meals? Great food is an essential part of the dining experience at Chartwell Isabella. Choose from à la carte or featured menu items served in our inviting, spacious dining room. Enjoy a variety of classic mains like steak and potato pie and modern fare like maple glazed wild salmon, as well as soups and salads made with seasonal produce, and delicious desserts. There are three types of bright and accessible private suites available at Chartwell Isabella—choose from stylish studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts, each with a kitchenette. Perfectly designed for independent living, these suites are also pet friendly. Some suites feature a private patio, while others have views of Mt. McKay.

At Chartwell Isabella, we’re part of the neighbourhood! Surrounded by historic character homes on quiet leafy streets, our retirement residence in the Fort William area of Thunder Bay fits in beautifully. Our location on Isabella Street, south of the main artery of Arthur Street, means that we’re just a short trip from many shops and services, from healthcare facilities to restaurants to grocery stores. Vickers Park is another popular destination with its flat trail and stately trees.

Things to do in Thunder Bay

There’s a wide variety of activities, venues, and attractions for active seniors to discover in Thunder Bay. Surrounded by boreal forest and perched at the top of Lake Superior, this small city offers tons of natural beauty, as well as urban amenities. Visit the Slate River Valley area to pick berries and other fresh seasonal produce, visit local farm stands, and don’t forget their cheese-making operation and dairy. There are great shopping opportunities at Intercity Shopping Centre, Goods & Co. Market, and the Thunder Bay Country Market, as well as the independent shops and eateries in the waterfront district and Frederica Street.
