Chartwell Empress Kanata

A close-knit retirement community that will make you feel a part of the family.

Step through the doors of Chartwell Empress Kanata and you’ll find you’re immediately embraced by a sense of warmth and friendship. Offering independent living and memory care services, our retirement community provides a social lifestyle centred on family and community.

The feeling of a supportive family home

Our senior living home in Kanata South offers the surrounding community a number of lifestyle options—from independent living suites to a dedicated Memory Living neighbourhood. Located in a quiet, tree-lined residential neighbourhood, many individuals choose to live with us because they have children or relatives living in the area. As such, it isn’t uncommon to see family members stopping by on the way to take their kids to school, or while out walking their dogs. As we’re a small residence, you’ll quickly feel a part of our close-knit community of residents and their families. We are also pet-friendly!

Long-standing community reputation

Well-established in Kanata, our retirement residence enjoys a strong reputation in the community, thanks in large part to our caring, long-service staff. We love to welcome members of our local community into our home, and host regular Bridge Club meetings in our games room. You can also look forward to our always-popular Thursday Happy Hours, ice-cream socials in the summers, reading in our well-stocked library, and peaceful strolls along our outdoor walking paths, shaded beneath mature and blooming trees. Our retirement home also boasts a theatre, chapel, salon, planters for gardening, and a newly renovated bistro!

Retirement living in Kanata

It’s tough to beat our prime location in Kanata, a popular suburb just west of Ottawa. Our retirement residence is located near Katimavik Road and Terry Fox Drive in a leafy residential neighbourhood in the Katimavik-Hazeldean area of South Kanata, just off highway 417. Amenities and services nearby include grocery stores, eateries, banking, local transit, sports and recreation complexes, and medical clinics. It’s about a 12-minute drive to Queensway Carleton Hospital too.

Things to do in Kanata

Kanata comes from a Huron-Iroquois word that means “come together” or “meeting place”—an apt description for this Ottawa suburb where there’s lots to do. Indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities abound, including many golf clubs, as well as Goulbourn Lawn Bowling Club, Kanata Archery Club, and Stittsville Shooting Ranges. Popular places to enjoy the scenery include the South March Highlands Conservation Forest. Catch the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre or your grandchildren play their favourite sports at numerous recreation complexes. If you like history, you might be fascinated by a visit to Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum, to learn more about the four-storey underground concrete bunker. Art and theatre enthusiasts will appreciate the Ron Maslin Playhouse nearby, as well as our proximity to Ottawa’s National Gallery of Canada and the capital’s many museums and attractions. For shopping, you can head to Kanata Commons, Grand Crossing, Van Leeuwen Centre, or Hazeldean Village, all within about 10 minutes.
