April 5, 2022I am very proud to share Chartwell’s recently published 2022 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, which highlights the positive societal impact our employees are making every day. As a leader in the retirement living sector in Canada, we see it as our duty to continuously evolve, improve and grow our contribution to society, and we are proud of the achievements we have made, while also recognizing that we have more work to do. I invite you to read our 2022 ESG report, where you will find, in addition to statistics and key performance indicators, the heartwarming and inspirational stories of our residents and employees. On March 31, we announced an agreement to transition, subject to required approvals, our Ontario Long Term Care (OLTC) operations to AgeCare Health Services Inc. and Axium Infrastructure Inc. This decision was difficult because of our long and successful history in the OLTC sector. Any successful company must make strategic choices, and we felt the time has come for us to increase our focus on growing Chartwell’s retirement portfolio which today represents over 90% of our business. It was critically important for us to partner with strong and reputable organizations that hold similar values to ensure a smooth transition for our residents and employees. I am confident that we selected exactly the right partners to continue the legacy of our OLTC operations and I am glad that our OLTC team will be joining AgeCare, an organization fully dedicated to the delivery of complex acute care to seniors. We are all committed to ensuring that residents and families continue to receive quality care and services during the transition period and beyond. I want to thank everyone who worked on this transaction and invite you to read the full press release here.
On April 1, we closed on the acquisition of three recently developed retirement residences in Ontario: Bowmanville Creek in Bowmanville; Allandale Station in Barrie; and Balmoral Place in Collingwood. We are excited to add these new residences to the Chartwell family and we would like to officially welcome our new employees and residents. Thank you to our corporate support teams who assisted with this transaction and to those who will work closely with our new residences to ensure a seamless integration in the coming weeks. For the full press release, please click here.As we continue to support Chartwell’s recovery strategy, I am pleased to see the re-introduction of our Open House events, allowing prospects who are considering a retirement lifestyle for themselves or their loved ones, to experience what it’s like firsthand. From April 7-10, all Chartwell retirement residences across the country will be hosting afternoon open houses, where individuals can drop in at their convenience to learn more about our amenities, life enrichment programs, dining experience and care services, and speak with our knowledgeable Retirement Living Consultants. This Open House accompanies our spring marketing campaign Think you know Retirement Living? Think Again, which emphasizes “togetherness” and the “power of community.” The campaign ads featuring Chartwell residents and employees can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/U01AnPAatLo and https://youtu.be/FfwxCj697C8.
