Display a flameless candle collection

A group of pillar candles on a side or coffee table brings instant warmth to your living room. For safety, and to follow any residence fire regulations, buy LED battery-operated candles, some of which are even made of wax, and display realistic flames. Give them a base of real or artificial greenery with berries and pinecones, and feel the glow!

Throw on some warmth

Switch up your regular throw for a holiday-themed one or sling a big, chunky-knit blanket in a warm neutral tone over a chair. Accessorize with pillows in high-texture fabrics such as velvet, felt or natural weaves. Embrace your inner glam by adding a little beading or sequins to table runners, or on guest towels.

Let there be light

It’s amazing what a few strings of LED battery-operated fairy lights can do to bring instant holiday warmth to any space. Drape them around door frames or scrunch up a string inside a large glass vase or jar. You can also purchase curtains of lights, stars, or other pretty shapes to hang in a window, on a wall, or from a mantle.

Create a hot chocolate station

A kitchen nook, bar cart or bookshelf are all perfect places to create a hot chocolate station. Fill a basket with instant cocoa packets and marshmallows. Display festive mugs, spoons and napkins, and a plate of cookies when the grandchildren come to visit.

Make it family friendly

You’ll feel instantly at home with a display of family photos on a wall, or in an album displayed on your coffee table. Add pretty bows or small hits of greenery to the frames. If you have treasured family tree decorations (and no longer have room for a tree), display them in a glass bowl. String previous years’ holiday cards from friends and family on a bright ribbon and display next to your front door.
