Chartwell Deerview Crossing hosts Canada 150 butterfly release

Chartwell’s iconic butterfly logo is more than just a design. It’s a symbolic representation of the later stage of a caterpillar’s life journey, but also its most beautiful phase. The logo’s vibrant colours communicate a sense of energy and brilliance and compliment the vibrancy in which we see our residents at this point in their lives.

With this in mind, Chartwell Deerview Crossing staff recently found an ideal intergenerational opportunity with St. Therese of Lisieux Elementary School, whose kindergarten class has been raising caterpillars into butterflies to learn about their life cycles.

“We decided to host a butterfly release ceremony for the St. Therese Lisieux kindergarten class,” explains Ann Swaby, Lifestyle & Program Manager at Chartwell Deerview Crossing in Hamilton, Ontario. “At the thought of having so many generations under one roof celebrating the beauty of life, we knew it was the perfect way to gear up for Canada 150.”

Deerview Butterfly 2On the afternoon of June 20th, students arrived at Chartwell Deerview Crossing’s outdoor patio with Canadian flags held over their hearts and a group of newly-hatched painted lady butterflies ready to release. The students sang an inspiring rendition of “O Canada” and recited a special butterfly poem before a proud audience of residents and staff. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for: a kaleidoscope of gorgeous butterflies were released into the sky. The crowd was all smiles as cameras clicked, and some butterflies even decided to hang around the patio to give spectators a closer look at their beautiful colours.

“We were delighted to host such a special event at our residence,” says Ann. “Our partnership with St Therese of Lisieux has been ongoing since Chartwell Deerview Crossing opened, and our residents just love when the little ones stop by for a visit.”

The ceremony ended with all attendees participating in a boisterous “Canada 150!” chant, and what a perfect way to get everyone excited for Canada’s historic milestone.
