A trip to Thailand and a flight over Hamilton

Chartwell and Wish of a Lifetime Canada have been busy fulfilling wishes over the last few months. Making dreams a reality for seniors is what this partnership is all about, and April and May certainly didn’t disappoint! Have a look at some of the inspiring wishes we’ve fulfilled.

Gordon Visits Thailand to Meet His Great-Grandchildren

“Being able to hug them and kiss them—it was the most marvellous feeling in the world.”

GordonFor 87-year-old Chartwell Colonel Belcher resident Gordon Norwood, family means everything. When Gordon was asked what his ultimate wish would be, he really only had one thing in mind: reuniting with his grandson, Matthew, and meeting his great-grandchildren for the first time. It may seem like a simple request, except that Matthew lives all the way in Thailand. With 12,000 kilometres between Gordon and his family, he never thought they’d get the chance to reconnect—that is until Chartwell and Wish of a Lifetime Canada came together to make his wish a reality.

On April 17th, Gordon safely touched down in Bangkok. Surrounded by cameras and onlookers, he finally got the chance to hold his great-grandchildren in his arms. The 12-day trip brought together a total of four generations, allowing Gordon to not only connect with Matthew and his wife, Dtang, but to form a new bond with his lovely great-grandchildren, Katherine and Nicholas.

Ruby Soars Over Hamilton

“It was better than I ever thought it was going to be!”

Ruby 2Chartwell Regina Gardens resident Ruby Denyer has a real taste for adventure and a genuine love for the city of Hamilton, where she has lived for over 50 years. With these two things in mind, Ruby decided that her ultimate wish would be to ride in the cockpit of a plane as it soared over her beloved city. Thanks to Chartwell and Wish of a Lifetime Canada, Ruby got the chance to do just that.

“I’m loving it!” said Ruby during her flight. “Scared? Not a bit!”

Ruby beamed throughout the entire ride, marvelling at the escarpment and some familiar Hamilton landmarks. She even got the chance to take the controls as her plane was taking off. Many of Ruby’s friends from Chartwell Regina Gardens came out to John C. Munro International Airport to cheer her on.
