Chartwell Carrington House kicks off 2017 with engaging events

At Chartwell Carrington House in Mission, BC, there’s nothing residents look forward to more than an activity calendar chock-full of interesting events and entertainment. Keeping in mind their active and social clients—many of whom enjoy a good party or outing, particularly when there’s opportunity to socialize and try something new and exciting—the Lifestyle team at Carrington House put a great deal of time and effort into events that will impress.

Never one to disappoint, here’s some of the enjoyable events the retirement community has already hosted in 2017:

Gong Hey Fat Choy!

In anticipation of Chinese New Year, Lifestyle & Program Manager Jennifer teamed up with Food Service Manager Brian to transport residents to the Orient. First off, Brian served a delicious lunch comprised of homemade chow mein and sweet and sour pork. Later in the day, during afternoon tea, residents tried different themed activities like learning to eat with chopsticks and write Chinese characters, all while enjoying a selection of fruit and different types of dessert—red bean, almond and milk buns! Last came a round of historical trivia, served with a side of green or ginger tea.

For the love of Bingo

As February is a month to celebrate matters of the heart, staff arranged for a competitive Bingo tournament benefitting the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation! Residents enjoyed an entire afternoon of Bingo, with all participants contributing a minimum of $5, and had the chance to win chocolates, specialty coffees, spa products and even beautiful plants to spruce up their suites. Grand prize winner Drenda walked away with a gorgeous orchid and yummy chocolates. Happily, the home raised $200 on top of an entertaining afternoon.

Dinner & a cause

As residents and staff at Chartwell Carrington House love to support worthy causes that benefit their local community and abroad, staff decided to arrange a fundraiser for Chartwell’s charitable partner, Wish of a Lifetime Canada. Residents purchased raffle tickets for an enviable prize—chocolates, wine and dinner for the winner and five friends in the home’s private dining room! Lucky winners Veronica and Roy invited family and friends for a delicious meal: apple, walnut and butter lettuce salad, roasted nugget potatoes, matchstick heritage carrots, roasted whole chicken and a delectable poached pears in red wine dessert! Needless to say, the home raised $180 for want of such an appetizing prize.
