Residents celebrate Easter at Chartwell with family, food and fun

Easter  is quickly approaching and many residents living in Chartwell retirement residences are looking forward to a fun-filled day. A number of retirement communities are celebrating with their own twist on traditional holiday celebrations, bringing together residents and their families and friends. Chartwell Robert Speck, Wynfield and Deerview Crossing shared the exciting events they have planned for the joyous occasion.

Live entertainment
Chartwell Robert Speck Retirement Residence in Mississauga is kicking off Easter on Good Friday with musical entertainment from Mike McConnell, or “Mr. Song Man,” as he’s referred to onstage. Residents will spend the evening listening to his skills on the guitar while they’re served tea, coffee, wine and other refreshments.

Happily, the musical celebrations don’t stop there! The residence will also bring in guitarist Aidan Purnell to serenade guests during a dinner on Saturday, and saxophone player Jerzy and Bruno will perform during Sunday’s social hour. Chartwell Deerview Crossing Retirement Residence in Hamilton will also have a live band to entertain guests during their Easter Sunday dinner. The following day, they’ll celebrate with a special game of Bingo featuring Easter-themed prizes.

Chartwell Wynfield Retirement Residence in Oshawa is providing live entertainment for residents on Easter as well. In previous years, they invited face painters and balloon artists to entertain children, and this year, they’re having high-end face painters come to the event to turn children’s faces into beautiful works of art.

Classic Easter fun
Easter celebrations would be incomplete without egg hunts and decorating. Chartwell Robert Speck is bringing back their traditional Easter egg hunt as it’s a favourite with residents. Last year, seniors and their grandchildren turned it into a friendly competition and they all tried to be the first to find the eggs. The Easter bunny will also be making an appearance during the hunt, with children able to pose with him for some festive photos. Other guests can pose with Easter props in front of a painted backdrop handcrafted by residents during their art classes.

Chartwell Wynfield Retirement Residence had a similar idea for seniors and their families, and is even inviting children in the community to come along for the fun. On Saturday, April 4 from 10:00 – 11:30am, children will search for chocolate eggs that residents will have hidden throughout the residence. There will be face painting, prizes, juice and cookies to celebrate the day.

Egg fun will also be had at Chartwell Deerview Crossing, where residents and their families will be invited to the “Golden Egg Hunt.” The residence will have an intimate Easter brunch and egg crafting party, as well as an egg painting event with a local school that they’ve started a partnership with.

Other events
The Easter festivities aren’t the only fun events residents can look forward to this month. Chartwell Robert Speck is hosting a murder mystery dinner for seniors after the holiday, and Chartwell Wynfield will have a “Step into Spring at the Spa” event for those looking to rejuvenate after a long winter. An Alzheimer’s ceremony will be hosted at Chartwell Deerview, as well as a Captain’s Table, Hona Lulu Island event later in the month.

These are just some of the many exciting events Chartwell has planned for residents and families. To see what else is on the agenda for residents on a regular basis, download a sample activity calendar.
