Chartwell London hosts Classic Car Fundraiser for charity

Residents and staff members at Chartwell London Long Term Care Residence are gearing up for their annual Classic Car Fundraiser, an exciting event that takes place once a year at the residence. Community members, friends and family of residents are encouraged to drop by the fundraiser, which will take place today – July 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Bringing the community together
Visitors to Chartwell London’s Classic Car Fundraiser will be treated to homemade food and lively entertainment. Linda Adamson, Administrator at Chartwell London, explained that people from around the community gather to show off their classic cars, helping to craft an exciting ambience for all involved.

“We partner with vintage car owners who park their cars in our parking lot for an evening and invite the neighborhood to come and see,” Adamson said. “We sell hot dogs and hamburgers and provide live entertainment, usually a person or group who plays vintage music.”

Chartwell London has been hosting the Classic Car Fundraiser for several years now, providing residents, staff members and those in the community with a chance to visit the residence and enjoy vintage cars from their pasts. Last year, more than 100 people came out to support the fundraiser. Among those who are most adamant about the fundraiser are the residents, who enjoy discussing particular vehicles with their friends and family members.

“Residents enjoy viewing the old cars and reminiscing about their own cars,” Adamson explained. “If there is an unusual vehicle, like an old milk delivery van, that starts a lot of conversation.”

Collecting cars for a good cause
While residents and visitors will be able to view vintage cars and reminisce about the vehicles from their pasts, Chartwell London will be raising funds to help support the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Each year, the residence selects one charity to benefit from the funds raised by the event. In the past, Chartwell London has supported the Canadian Diabetes Association and Osteoporosis Canada.

Visitors from the community can make donations to the cause or purchase food items cooked by Chartwell London. The barbecue and car show will take place in the residence’s parking lot between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Please stop by to enjoy some good food and beautiful vintage cars!
