Chartwell residences raise thousands for charity

Chartwell retirement residences in the Outaouais region recently raised more than $27,000 for the Marche de la Mémoire, a charity walk held each year to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Residents living in Chartwell Cité Jardin, Monastère d’Aylmer, Notre-Dame de Hull and Domaine des Trembles participated in the event, which took place May 25th and was hosted by the Alzheimer Society Outaouais. Seniors, staff and family members from these communities walked to show their support of the organization and its efforts in the community.

Marc Lafontaine, the General Manager from Chartwell Monastère d’Aylmer, explained that he was proud the residents participated.

“Our participation in the Marche de la Mémoire is important,” Lafontaine said. “Our residents and staff, supported by the participation of the community, do not hesitate to take action to raise awareness about this disease. Creating public awareness also breaks the isolation that can sometimes exist among those affected by the disease and their families.”

The event wrapped up with a barbeque for participants and volunteers. Chartwell retirement residences in the Outaouais region plan to participate again next year to show support for the community and all its members.
