At Chartwell, we believe that keeping active and socially engaged is the key to a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.
A variety of recreational programs and activities are offered in all Chartwell residences to meet the needs of everyone. Programs take place on-site and in the community, and are created with varying degrees of interests and abilities in mind. Residents are encouraged to lead active and engaged lives while enjoying an inclusive and social atmosphere where they can truly feel fulfilled. From interest clubs to excursions, dance classes to celebrations, there is always an array of programs and activities for residents to choose from.
We believe that physical activity can help improve your health, mental acuity and independence, and it can also help to enhance balance and prevent falls. Activities that offer a variety of endurance, strength-building and flexibility benefits should be top of mind for older adults, and at Chartwell, the options are limitless. In addition to our signature Rhythm ’n’ Moves program, our residences offer a wide range of physical activities to help keep you moving well into your retirement years. Walking clubs, yoga, line dancing, tai chi and gardening are just a few examples of physical activities enjoyed by our residents. Don’t feel like heading outside? You can take part in a game of tennis on the residence’s Nintendo Wii console to help get your heart rate up!
Research has shown that social interaction offers numerous benefits, especially for older adults. Staying socially active and maintaining close relationships can help contribute to good physical, emotional and cognitive health. Chartwell residences offer ample opportunities for residents to meet new friends and maintain close relationships. A variety of activities, including Game Nights, Bistro Socials, Book Clubs, Movies and Community Outings, provide fun ways for residents to meet one another and form friendships in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Residences are encouraged to host a variety of social events and activities that foster engagement between residents with varying interests and backgrounds.
Many Chartwell residents play bridge and count it as one of their most fond activities of which they are most fond. Chartwell is excited to have partnered with the Canadian Bridge Federation and is proud to be sending a delegation of players from our residences to the 2014 Canadian Bridge Championship in Calgary!
