Independent Living or Apartments (IL)
Independent suites for seniors with the availability of meals, laundry and general services, but without personal care services. Independent retirement living combines socialization, safety and security under one roof. Suites may be available in a variety of community types including retirement home buildings and/or apartments, townhouses and bungalows.
Independent Supportive Living (ISL)
Independent suites with the convenience of general household services such as dining, lifestyle programs and housekeeping but with the added availability of on-site personal care services such as medication administration or assistance with daily living activities. Care services can be offered by Chartwell staff or through government-funded home care agencies, depending on the jurisdiction and availability in each retirement residence.
Assisted Living (AL)
Independent suites combined with personal care services that may include assistance with activities of daily living, medication monitoring, and customized care services and support as required. This level of service is frequently offered in a separate wing, floor or designated area of the residence.
Memory Care (MC)
Independent suites with personal care services in a separate and secure wing or floor within the retirement community, for residents experiencing memory loss. Programming and services, including dining and lifestyle activities, are geared towards residents living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia with non-aggressive behaviour.
Long Term Care / Extended Care Homes / CHSLD
Residences offering 24-hour nursing care, assistance with daily living activities and high levels of personal care. This type of residence is suitable for residents with complex medical needs and/or advanced stages of Alzheimer’s or Dementia who require skilled nursing. Admission and funding is overseen by local government agencies in each province.
Long Term Care homes, also known as Nursing Homes, Extended Care Homes, CHSLD Homes or Residential Care Homes, offer both private or semi-private rooms and ward rooms.
Continuum of Care
Offers the availability and convenience of multiple levels of care options under one roof or in adjacent buildings so your changing needs can be met with minimal disruption. Traditionally includes Independent Supportive Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care within the retirement residence and/or adjacent to a Long Term Care or Nursing Home.
Available to individuals requiring temporary accommodation for respite care or to convalesce following a hospital visit or health issue, subject to availability. Short stays are also offered as a trial stay to experience retirement living first hand.
